mike: a missing middletown baby found, but her mother is shot dead. tonight, what police have to go on . sheree: the temperature flirting with zero degrees overnight. how long we'll be dealing with the brutal cold. kevin robinson has an update in 30 seconds. mike: and a string of robberies in greater cincinnati. the new surveillance video tonight, and why investigators think the cases are connected. >> from cincinnati's wlwt, leading the way, on-air, online and on the go news 5 at 11 sheree: first the snow, now the cold. good evening. i'm sheree paolello. mike: and i'm mike dardis. 26 school districts are already delaying classes for tomorrow. sheree: it's dangerously cold out there tonight. families, bundled up, while heading out at amelia high school as we head into the single digits. let's get right to chief meteorologist kevin robinson with what you can expect when you head out the door. kevin: skies have cleared across the area and that is setting the stage for a night in which

with zero if not below by first thing tomorrow morning. check out harrison. already down to 8 already. again, we still have many more hours of nightfall to go here. down to 13 in hamilton. 13 in walton. skies are clear. we have fresh snow on the ground not to mention winds, while the area, are a bitterly cold night across the if there is any good news, it is the fact that we won't have much wind overnight. zero degrees, actual air temperature or zero as a wind chill, it is going to be bitterly cold first thing in the morning. make sure you dress warm and dress in layers and while sending the kids out to the bugs stop if they have school -- bus stop if they have school tomorrow morning.

latest weather conditions and school delays and closings overnight. wake up with us for updates starting at 4:30 a.m. you can also find school closings anytime on wlwt.com. mike: in other news tonight -- a middletown mom murdered. her little girl found a few feet away from her in a car seat. tonight we're learning more about the woman who was shot in dayton. wlwt news 5's tammy mutasa is live in middletown with the developing details tammy? tammy: family and friends tell me brittany russell was happy but she was quiet and kept to herself. they didn't feel comfortable talking to me on camera but they're wondering why anyone would murder her. a young mom killed found shot to death in her car in a dayton parking lot brittany russell's 6-month old baby haven was in the car seat, alive. >> now i have her back i'm happy

about the situation. tammy:investigators say on tuesday russell took haven from a babysitter at her dad's house in middletown. brittany does not have custody of her daughter. chris ed warsd, the baby's father does. >> she didn't take her as in kidnapping-wise, but she took her to spend time with her daughter. tammy:when brittany and haven didn't show up again, the family looked around dayton until the wee hours of the morning. >> it's horrible. you see it all the time but you never think it's going to happen to you. tammy:investigators found brittany. neighbors at the dayton complex say her car was there all night tuesday. >> between 3 and 4 she'll come to the gas station and that same car was running. tammy:haven was finally reunited with her dad at the police station where she was safe in her daddy's arms but now she'll have to grow up without her mom. >> it kills me what happened, but like i said i'm glad my kid's safe.

happened to the mother. tammy: at this hour, we're still waiting for dayton police investigators to release more information on this homicide investigation. mike: tammy, thank you. haven's family telling us when the car was spotted it was running and the heat was on. sheree: a series of robberies in northern kentucky this week. and police think it could be the same man involved in all of them. this is a picture from the latest robbery it happened this morning at the u.s. bank inside the remke market in fort mitchell. wlwt news 5's emily wood has more on why police are connecting him to other recent robberies. emily? emily: with three robberies in three days, police are focusing on what could be a serial robber. erlanger police say this man attempted to rob the circle k on dixie highway just after

police say he is armed and concerned. >> police are focusing on what could be a serial robber. er langer police say this man attempted to rob the circle k on dixie highway. he didn't stay long because of the clerk's warning. him that he had already activated the silent alarm and that if he left now he might be able to get away before the police get there so he turned and ran out of the store. >> 16 hours later he was succesfull, robbing the bb&t bank, also on dixie highway, less than half a mile from the gas station. >> he presented a note to the teller asking for money, of course, they complied with that. emily:today, a man of similar build and appearance entered this us bank inside the fort mitchell remke, handing the teller a note and demanding money. quentin thomas was inside that

>> i've never heard or seen anything like that before so it's new. kind of scary that it's getting, you know, drifting from the big cities to these small towns. emily:detectives from fort mitchell, erlanger, and elsmere are working together in these cases. anyone that recognizes the man in any of the photos, please call police. sheree: thank you. fort mitchell police say the chevrolet malibu. from the late 1990's or early 2000's. it was a faded silver or grey car, with ohio tags. if you have information that could help police call crimestoppers at (513)352-3040. according to the f.b.i. kentucky had 57 bank robberies in 2015 while ohio had 161.

half of those robberies, the robber used a note to carry out the crime. mike: new developments tonight in a shooting investigation in blue ash. the city's police department is now calling sunday's shooting on oak street an isolated incident. at least 10 shots were fired along oak and florence avenues, injuring three people. tonight police say everyone involved in the shooting knew each other, and they were acquaintances with ties to the hazelwood community. to help put neighbors fears at ease the city says there will be extra patrols dedicated to the area for the next few days. no charges have been filed in the shooting. blue ash police say detectives are still looking at forensic evidence to match up the bullets to the right gun. sheree: first on wlwt. a teenager hit by a driver, who took off is sharing her story, while police continue to look

terrianna barnes was crossing reading road at the glenwood intersection this morning, when she says the cars had a red light. but one driver didn't stop, hitting the 15-year-old and throwing her into the air. >> as i tried to back up i could already tell that my leg was getting hit, that's when i started screaming. sheree: she said the driver stopped at first, but took off when the police showed up. officers did find the car, but the owner says it was taken without her permission. terrianna was taken to children's hospital with injuries to her back, arm and knee. she has already been treated and released. a grandmother is going to prison for six years for the heroin-related death of her grandson. kathy huff cried during today's hearing admitting she caused the 4-month-old's death. prosecutors say she passed out while giving the baby a bath. today, she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. huff's attorney says her addiction was a secret, even from her family. mike: ohio governor john kasich's campaign is in south carolina after a strong 2nd place finish last night in the new hampshire primary.

signing that bill is a move that's could help him with conversatives in the upcoming republican primary in south carolina which is where governor kasich is campaigning now. the bill will impact about $1.3 million in funding from the ohio department of health. it would prohibit the money from going to entities that perform or promote abortions. streetcar number three is headed to cincinnati, and it's expected in over-the-rhine tomorrow. that means there will be a couple of street closings tomorrow afternoon. it'll take about 90 minutes for from a flat-bed truck onto the tracks. next delivery is set for the end of this month and car number five is expected before the end of march. mike: new at 11, the hashtag bag search 2016 is over. andy dalton has found his luggage. just after 8:00 tonight the bengals quarterback posted this picture to twitter. adding his thanks to

center just north of baltimore. reporter: two deputies are dead unthinkable attack, during the busy lunch hour at a panera bread >> i was freaking out so much and everybody was just kinda running to one side of the store and families were huddling and hugging together. sophia faulkner it was pandemonium inside. the deputy was called to the restaurant to check on a report about someone causing a problem. the deputy tried to talk to the man when he was attacked. reporter: and then immediately to one of the ladies an officer that was in there apparently right after that he just took out his gun and shot him in the head right after the officer asked him hows your day. reporter: faulkner says the suspect ran out the back door of panera. that sent nearby businesses into lockdown. bethany pace spent the lockdown in the back breakroom of old navy. >> very scary and the anxiety sort of kept rising as we sat there and not really having an idea of what's going on. reporter: sophia faulkner says she's just trying to process and understand what she saw today. >> you see this stuff in movies and online and everything and on

you never think you're going to go out to lunch one day with your mom and its just going to happen. reporter: one of the veterans killed was a 30-year veteran and the other was a 16-year veteran. exchange of gunfire not far from the shopping center. no bystanders were hurt. the f.b.i. surrounded a wildlife refuge. four people remain inside including a local guy, david frye from manchester . no shots have been fired. there are 16 people including the group's leader who were charged with conspiracy to impede federal officers. officers.

missouri is now facing a federal lawsuit from the department of justice. u.s. attorney general loretta lynch announced the suit today. the justice department had negotiated a deal with the city of ferguson over reforms to its police force and municipal court system. but yesterday, ferguson's city council voted to change the terms, prompting the lawsuit. >> they made enforcement decisions based on the way individuals expressed themselves and they unnecessarily escalated non-life threatening situations. these violations were not only egregious but they were routine. mike: all of this coming to after the shooting death of teenager michael brown. officials with the city of the suit. they say they plan to tomorrow. sheree: emergency funds could be to flint, michigan to help solve the city's water crisis. >> this is a band aid fix and people want and deserve a more permanent solution. capitol hill today telling a democrat-only committee about the current situation. the water the city has been using from the flint river since 2014 has been contaminated with lead.

more than $750,000 to help fix and replace lead-contaminated pipes. lawmakers say the white house has signaled support of their effort. mike: an investigation underway in the louisville area to find out who left four puppies to die next to a dumpster. two of them froze to death. a rumpke worker discovered the puppies while making his rounds around 4:30 this morning. they were inside a small storage container. two were already dead, the worker took the other two to an animal shelter. >> there are so many courses you can daycare. walk in like i did. at least they have a chance. they won't freeze to death or get hit by a car or something. mike: the two puppies will be available for adoption next

kevin: all right. going the heat is going to work overtime to keep the temperatures down. we'll be close to zero by the time you wake up first thing tomorrow morning. here is a look at your weather headlines. frinled temperatures. as a matter of fact those are going to stay in the forecast for the foreseeable future. i don't think we'll climb above freezing until sometime early next week. we have two opportunities for snow here. one coming up on friday and another one into monday of early next week and once we get beyond the snow, how about a warm-up for the middle to latter part of next week coming into the area. yes, it is cold but it doesn't look like it is going to stay forever. just for the next week or so. 12 outside the arpte now. here is an important number. look at the wind. calm at the airport. the good news is with the winds letting up across the area,

overnight. the problem is all the little bit of warmth we were able to gain today escaped out into space. that is what happened in harrison. down to 8. 14 wilmington. when you factor in the wind, fortunately there is not much out there. feels close to zero in wilmington and the rest of us feel close to 8-10 degrees outside. skies are clearing across the area. there is a clipper system to our south and west. this is gradually working its way into ohio here tonight. these numbers may be a bit conservative. especially if the winds remain on the calm side. most of us first thing tomorrow morning will probably wake up with temperatures within a couple of degree offense zero.

or urban areas, probably below. look at harrison. 2 in walton. you get the idea, right? temperatures tomorrow around zero, maybe even below for some of us. because it is such a cold start tomorrow, it will still be a beautiful day indoors with lots of sunshine. highs only making it into the 20's. not much to talk about until we get to friday. we'll cloud up on friday. i'm keeping an eye on this clipper system. inch to an inch of snow. eye on that. it is going to come through with an arctic cold front. snow showers early saturday morning and setting the the stage for a bitterly cold valentine's day weekend even by mid february standards. check out the cold.

only good news for andy dalton, welcome back, everyone. in a story on the team's website, andy says he feels his broken thumb is healed enough that he could finally start throwing again,, but he's going to hold off and make sure he is ready which makes you wonder,, if the bengals had made a deep playoff run,, would dalton have even played?? maybe not. it's a quiet night for college basketball in our area tonight but never fear hoops fans. more games are on the way soon n.k.u has a tough one tomorrow night at valparaiso and valpo is 20- 4. xavier and uc return to action on saturday. the musketeers are at butler at 2;30, and uc hosts east carolina at 4. the reds equipment truck pulled out this morning and headed to arizona. it is one week from tomorrow when the reds pitcher and catchers report to goodyear. the reds will be missing one of their most beloved employees, former clubhouse manager bernie stowe passed away yesterday the reds announced the arrangements

bernie's visitation will be sunday from 3 to 7 pm at elder high school's schaeper center the funeral will be 9;30 monday morning at holy family church on west in price hill. in high school basketball there was an intriguing makeup game tonight norwood and amelia batting for the american division title in the southern buckeye. amelia was ready for this one the home of the barons and the blue crew showing up loud and proud. amelia's daniel waldmann spots ryan turner for jumper. the barons were on the board first. norwood's michael george hits back to back baskets including this 3 to keep the indians close. daniel waldmann takes it baseline this time and hits turner who quickly gets it into cage meyer. off the glass, amelia using that size advantage all night david winkler hits a three and amelia wins the southern buckeye american outright with a 65-55 win. we have another beacon orthopaedics and sports medicine primetime performer of the week. he is adam goetz of st.henry high school.
